Our Guide to Wine & Tacos

Every Wednesday at the office, we get together and taste through all the wines our team is most excited about that week. Our go-to lunch spot for these gatherings has become Mothers in Napa, which opened in 2023 and has become the hottest taco shop between Calistoga and Carneros.

To celebrate National Taco Day, our wine team is sharing their top pairings with different tacos from the Mothers menu. Pay close attention—our own Eduardo Dingler is from Mexico, and he knows what he’s talking about!

Pescado Tacos

Mothers does fish tacos right. To cut through the crispy fried fish, we want some acidity, and a nice Rosé is up to the job. Plus, the aromatics will complement the cilantro notes, while the flavors can stand up to the richer flavors of the aioli.

Chicken Tacos

Nothing says California like chicken tacos and a lively Pinot Noir. The fruitiness and bright acidity of the wine complement the bird without overpowering it.

Pastor Tacos

We love to pair pastor tacos with a bold Chardonnay. Pastor boasts a nice balance of sweet and spice, and since it’s traditionally topped off with pineapple, it’s perfect for a domestic Chard bursting with rich pineapple notes.

Carne Asada

When choosing a pairing for carne asada tacos, Sake is your best friend. Any style of sake—whether it’s vibrant and clean or juicy and rich—will beautifully complement the rich, umami flavors that define carne asada. Kanpai con carne!
